Jim Allen

Jim Allen, Ed.S., M.S., has over forty years of experience as an educator, administrator and mental health professional.Jim began his career as an engineering and design instructor, and led many student teams in winning national and international competitions.He also worked as a Career Development Coordinator.The school to work program that Jim developed was recognized as an exemplar program by the State of Michigan.
After completing his M.S.in guidance and counseling, Jim transitioned into a counseling role, working with students experiencing academic, emotional, behavioral and/or personal challenges. Jim develops a coaching and mentoring relationship with students that is based on mutual trust and respect. In addition to stressing health and wellness activities, Jim’s experience as an educator enables him to assess student learning challenges and strengths in order to create individualized strategies for academic success, which include connecting students with a variety of university and community resources.

Mary Alice Bell

Mary Alice has over 25 years of experience in higher education, the last 20 of those working directly with medical students at IUSM. Areas of responsibility have included general support and advocacy; and academic, career, and student interest group advising. She has participated in three LCME accreditation self-studies and site visits and has served on numerous School and University committees. She has had leadership roles or been an active participant in implementation of many new programs and initiatives. Mary Alice has a Master of Science degree in higher education with a minor in counseling.She lives in Indianapolis with her husband and daughter.

Lauren grew up on the south side of Chicago.She attended Western Illinois University where she studied Communication and Graphic Communication.She attended Ball State University where she earned a Master's degree in Student Affairs Administration.Chirp! Chirp! Now wiith more than 6 years of higher education experience, Lauren has worked at both a community college and now a professional school in an academic advising role.Her creativity and drive have resulted in the implementation of programs in orientation and advising at both levels.She has presented at national conferences including the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), National Association for Academic Advising (NACADA), and National Orientation Directors Association (NODA).Outside of IUSM she enjoys spending time with her husband, Brett, daughter, Gwyneth and their dog Bazbeaux.

Ashley Holt was born and raised in Terre Haute, IN.After high school, she attended Indiana State University where she studied Spanish and graduated with a BA in 2008.She completed a Masters in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2009, which she had planned to use for a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation.However, after obtaining a graduate assistantship – and experiencing an internship at the federal level – she realized she was better suited, and more interested, in a career in higher education.She has been employed at Indiana University School of Medicine – Terre Haute since September of 2012.During her four years of employment, she has held several roles, all of which have allowed her to work with medical students.She has more than a year of advising experience.In her free time, Ashley enjoys portrait photography, going on cruises, exploring cities by foot, musical theater, and playing intramural softball with her students.

Ms.Jackson is the Director for Medical Education and lead advisor at IUSM-South Bend.She received her undergraduate degree at Ball State University in Biology and German in 1998.She received a master’s degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs with an emphasis on medical education at Indiana University, Bloomington in 2002.
She has worked in higher education and student affairs for 18 years.Her work focuses on designing the four years of medical education, evaluating and assessing the effectiveness of the curriculum; ensuring accreditation standards are consistently met; and serving as an educational advisor to faculty and students.Ms.Jackson serves on all major education committees at IUSM including the Curriculum Council (and components) and Academic Standards Committee.Her current interests are student mentoring/advising, educational technology and faculty development.In 2013, Ms.Jackson received the Michiana Forty Under 40 Award based on her work in establishing the IUSM-South Bend campus as a four year program.

Courtney Lewellen has over 13 years of experience in student affairs and advising. Prior to her time at IUSM, Courtney was employed at the University of South Florida spending time in USF Athletics, Nursing, and Criminology. In 2013, she earned the USF Outstanding Undergraduate Advising Award. Courtney has specialized in life skills coaching, at-risk advising, and career planning.She enjoys assisting students on their road to graduation including their personal and professional development.
Prior to her career in student affairs, Courtney competed as a Division I softball student-athlete at USF.Highlights from her athletic career include being the Conference USA Softball Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2001 and being inducted into the USF Softball Hall of Fame. She earned Bachelor and Master degrees in Criminology as well as a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Leadership. Originally from Tampa, Florida, Courtney relocated to Indianapolis in 2015 where she currently resides with her partner, Laura, and dogs, Scooby and Molly.

Ms.Linn is the lead advisor for the IUSM students on West Lafayette’s campus.Prior to her current role, she spent four years in the College of Pharmacy as an assistant director in the Office of Student Services.She specializes in helping students experience academic success and developing them as professionals.Ms.Linn is a certified practitioner for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and StrengthsFinder assessment tools.She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master of Fine Arts in Writing.

Kelly Matthews is a Lead Academic Advisor at the Indiana University School of Medicine.She earned her Master of Science in Education from Indiana University in Bloomington and has over 9 years of experience in advising.Prior to her position with the IU School of Medicine, Kelly worked with undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Mathematics at IUPUI.In that role, she guided students from matriculation through graduation ensuring they met appropriate benchmarks along the way.She also helped initiate programs and policies to improve retention and provide a better experience for students.In addition to academic advising, she has experience in admissions, orientation, and career advising.

Gin is a graduate of Grace College in Winona Lake, Indiana where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology in 1989.Upon graduation, she was employed in community mental health in Fort Wayne.Gin pursued a Masters in Mental Health Counseling from IPFW in 1997 and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and board-certified professional counselor and PTSD clinician.Gin has served as a student advisor for over 15 years.She also provided individual and group counseling, hosted workshops in mental health, and served as Administrator of Professional Development.Gin received several awards during her tenure in mental health, including the President’s Award and Vice-President’s Award for her outstanding contributions.As a side interest, she volunteers as a family coach for a child placement program that assists families in crisis.Gin is currently the Lead Advisor at the Fort Wayne campus as of May, 2016 and resides in Fort Wayne with her husband and son.​

Prior to IUSM Keith worked at the University of Southern Indiana as Director of the Advising and Resource Center in the Pott College of Science, Engineering and Education.He was at Kansas State University from 2004 to 2014 as the Senior Academic Advisor in the College of Education.Before advising he was a teacher with the Ponca City Public Schools in Ponca City, OK.
His degrees include a Ph.D.in Counseling and Student Development - Student Affairs in Higher Education, 2012, from Kansas State University and a M.S.in Counseling and Student Personnel, 2004, from Oklahoma State University.His undergrad was in Music Education at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Keith was also able to present the results of my research at the NACADA 2013 Annual Conference.This was followed by publication in the NACADA Journal in 2014.
