8.2 Use of Medical Educational Program Objectives
The faculty of a medical school, through the faculty committee responsible for the medical curriculum, ensures that the medical curriculum uses formally adopted medical education program objectives to guide the selection of curriculum content, to review and revise the curriculum, and to establish the basis for evaluating programmatic effectiveness. The learning objectives of each required course and clerkship are linked to medical education program objectives.
IUSM Educational Program, Faculty and Students.
Formal Institutional Learning Objective (ILO) review and/or revision will occur every third-year by the Curriculum Council Steering Committee (CCSC) and its appropriate subcommittees.
Reason for Policy
IUSM uses ILOs as its formal medical education program objectives. In order to maintain an up-to-date curriculum pertinent to training in contemporary practice of medicine, the ILOs need to undergo periodic review.
Approved by CCSC on 11/29/2016
The CCSC will oversee the ILO review process and formally approve any recommended changes.
The CCSC assessment subcommittee will provide assessment data to support the implementation of ILOs. The IUSM Curriculum Evaluation Plan defines a structure and system for the primary review of these data, with its abridged reporting from the primary committees to the CCSC for final recommendations and interventions.
See Policy on Curriculum Evaluation Plan
There are no formal sanctions or penalty. However, failure to comply with this policy should trigger a process improvement review.
