Scope

All IUSM students.


Policy Statement

Only students who are matriculated in the Doctor of Medicine degree program are allowed to attend courses that are part of the formal medical school curriculum. See procedures for one-time visitor exception that may be accepted.


Reason for Policy

To ensure fair and equitable protection of students, faculty and the learning environment.


Approval

Approved by the Curriculum Council Steering Committee 04/13/2017.


Procedures

One-time visitors to classes may be allowed only on an exception basis with prior permission of the instructor. This policy does not apply to individuals who provide assistance to a student with a documented disability, such as Adaptive Educational Services sign language interpreters; individuals who are involved in the course in an instructional role; or administrative personnel. Individual academic units may have stricter policies based on the types of instruction occurring in the unit.
